Raku is a traditional Japanese method of creating ceramic objects. In a raku firing, you lift items in and out of the oven as the glazes melt. What is typical of raku ceramics are the crackling glazes and the jet-black ware. On this course, we make objects in stoneware clay on two course occasions and then gather for a full day to carry out the firings. You can choose the manufacturing method yourself and have access to both turntables and the rolling and construction studio. Here we work with a durable clay with a high chamotte content so that the objects can withstand the stresses that the method entails.
